Spend a week immersed in the world of Piero della Francesca; a unique opportunity to learn and apply the techniques used by Renaissance artists.

Workshops and talks given by practising fresco artist and teacher Carey Mortimer.

Carey Mortimer

is an artist based in Sardinia, Italy, working with fresco, egg tempera and pigments both in her own widely exhibited paintings and in collaborations with architects and designers. Carey gained a Master of Philosophy in Public Art and Design from Duncan of Jordanstone University and studied fresco painting with restorer Leonetto Tintori; she has taught Renaissance techniques for many years at Bosa Art School. She has an upcoming show at the Thackeray Gallery in Kensington, London.

The Week Schedule

Day 1 

Benvenuti! Arrive at Casa Ezio Marchi and settle into your elegant en-suite room. Enjoy a welcome aperitivo followed by a delicious Tuscan dinner shared with fellow guests.

Day 2

Wine & Hilltowns Explore the iconic wine regions of Montepulciano and Montalcino. Visit two prestigious wineries and sample the world-renowned Vino Nobile and Brunello. Wander the charming historic streets, enjoy a relaxed lunch, and end the day with dinner at the villa.

Day 3

Truffle Hunting & Cooking Class Head into the woods for a morning truffle hunt with a local guide and dogs. Enjoy a picnic lunch outdoors. In the evening, join your host Anna for a truffle-themed cooking class and shared dinner using the truffles you found that morning.

Day 4

Val d’Orcia Wonders Spend the day in the UNESCO World Heritage landscape of the Val d’Orcia.Stroll through Pienza, famed for its Renaissance architecture and pecorino cheese. Visit the enchanting La Foce Gardens, then dine in the picturesque village of Monticchiello.

Day 5

The Olive Harvest Join in the olive harvest on the villa’s land, using traditional nets and baskets. Visit the local frantoio (olive mill) to see how olio nuovo is produced and taste it with fresh bread. Lunch at the villa, then visit the medieval villages of Trequanda, Montisi, and Castelmuzio.Dinner in Montisi.

Day 6

Siena: Medieval Jewel Explore Siena’s magnificent old town. Highlights include the Palazzo Pubblico with its famous frescoes, the soaring Duomo, and Piazza del Campo. Visit a Contrada museum to discover the stories behind the legendary Palio horse race. Lunch and free time in Siena for strolling and shopping.Final celebration dinner at the villa – a festive pizza night using the old brick oven.

Day 7

Arrivederci A leisurely breakfast and fond farewells. Depart with lasting memories of Tuscany’s beauty, flavour, and charm.
